UAE AI Power Architecture 2027
How one gigawatt of AI capacity gets powered in the UAE: the paths, the instruments, the counterparties and the decisions, as worked through by the leaders in the room at Abu Dhabi and checked against the Grid to Chip record for the UAE.
Publication follows the Abu Dhabi summit, 19–20 January 2027.
Can the UAE power the next generation of AI?
The power exists. The path to it doesn’t. This report sets out, for the UAE, what it takes to put one gigawatt of AI capacity on the grid or beside it: which power paths are open, which contracting instruments exist, where the sites are, who finances, and which policy decisions sit in the way.
Written from the roundtable and the record.
The report is the written output of the closing roundtable at the Abu Dhabi summit, the 1-Gigawatt Challenge, in which an invited group of leaders works through the question above, combined with the Grid to Chip record for the UAE at launch. Participants are named in the report only with their written consent.
Planned contents.
The question, and how the roundtable approached it
Power paths: grid connection, dedicated generation, and the mix the UAE can contract
Contracting instruments: what exists, what is missing
Site: land, water, fibre and permitting
Facility and compute: what the capacity is being built for
Capital: who funds, and on what terms
Policy: the decisions that set where and when
The Grid to Chip record for the UAE at launch: summary by status and capacity
What the roundtable concluded, and what it did not
Contents are planned and may change with the roundtable’s output. The final table of contents is published with the report.
Who it is for.
Developers and operators planning UAE capacity; utilities, system operators and government bodies setting the terms; investors and lenders assessing projects; vendors and EPCs deciding where to commit.
